During the Civil War, "Sherman's March to the Sea" marked the end of the first town of Collierville, when Union General William T. Sherman stationed himself and his troops in the train depot. The soldiers there fought one of the bloodiest battles in Shelby County. During this battle, the entire town was burned to the ground with the exceptions of a few buildings.
Shortly after, the Town Square was built. Much of the history that makes the Square so unique can still be observed. Take a stroll through the Square and get a feel of our heritage.
